The story of a musician leaving the band that brought them success is not a new one. Usually the tale involves an acrimonious split, with accusations flying around in the press. However when Rostam Batmanglij decided to leave Vampire Weekend their remaining lead singer Ezra Koenig took a far more gentlemanly perspective. He used his Instagram and Twitter accounts to respond to the news with a much wiser and collaborative approach. Instead of defiance Ezra Koenig showed support for his former bandmate and a capacity to work with him again.
A couple years ago, Rostam and I sat down at his house & talked abt whether our collaboration was dependent on being members of the same band. We both firmly agreed that nope, it was not. In fact, we agreed that our collaboration was more important. I’m psyched about the work we’ve already begun for LP4 and I’m psyched to hear anything else Rostam is a part of.
The music industry has very few gentlemen left, but Mr Koenig gets our approval.
