Mixing a Mint Julep

This is a ‘mix in the glass’ drink so put your shaker away for now.

In a Julep cup or an Old Fashioned glass

  1. Add 8 mint leaves
  2. Half a jigger of sugar syrup (equal parts sugar and water heated and cooled)
  3. Then muddle gently, being careful not to mash the mint leaves
  4. Next add a large bourbon
  5. Fill the cup with crushed ice (cubes won’t do)
  6. Lightly stir until the glass is frosted all around
  7. Top the glass/cup with enough crushed ice to form a small dome
  8. Finish with two dashes of angostura bitters on top
  9. Garnish with a final mint leaf
