A man who starts his year by bagging the Best Actor award at the Oscars, could quite rightly put his feet up and bask in the considerable glow. However every gentleman should know that hard work is a cornerstone of modern living and this year’s Man of the Year has demonstrated that amply.
Mr Matthew McConaughey has spent 2014 deftly treading the fine line between never being off our screens and avoiding over exposure (take note Mr Gosling!). Alongside his work in the Academy Award winning Dallas Buyers Club we saw McConaughey show up in Martin Scorsese’s (also Oscar nominated) The Wolf of Wall Street. Rounding off his cinematic year with an epic turn in Christopher Nolan’s billion dollar Interstellar.
But the big screen was not big enough for McConaughey, this year. He continued bagging even more awards for his role as Detective Rustin Spencer Cohle in the HBO drama series True Detective.
When he was not lighting up our screens or being draped on pretty much every magazine cover across the world, McConaughey was giving his time to the “just keep livin” Foundation. Founded with his wife Camila. This charity is nobly dedicated to empowering high school students to lead active lives.
That kind of year would leave most men a hollow shell of himself. However Mcconaughey has somehow managed to carry it all with a gentlemanly grace.
Our hats are off to you sir.
